With loose skin on her bones
Her eyes were transparent
Her feelings were unknown
She wore a bright turban
Her hair was mostly gone
She looked much older
Than her forty two years
And seemed unaware
Of people and their despair
Lying on a bed
Blanched and drained
Pale as a white rose
Pale as a white rose
Weathered and wasted
Life had taken a turn
Landing her in a storm
Alien and alienated
She forgot where she’s from…
Her family had gathered
For a final goodbye
Questions on their mind
‘Whats’ and ‘whys’
Her laughter broke
the silence
When she thanked one and all
Her strength had given up

A touching post..
ReplyDeleteThank you Deepz for reading this. I have always wondered how it must feel to know your days are numbered...
DeleteA very vivid and moving description. Very effective.
ReplyDeleteDear Meenakshi,
DeleteThis is about someone I know. Thanks for reading :)
Nice touchy one... I have known several who suffered in their lives and sadly they are no more... Still there are people who fight this disease with courage and determination and they also inspire others to fight against this rather than to rot in despair... Lance Armstrong, Yuvi and several have created wide awareness about this one.. Kudos to your writing :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Hari,
DeleteI am so happy to know that you were touche by this.
It is touching.... a beautiful ode to all those survivors who fight with every core of their existence :)
ReplyDeleteDear Privy,
DeleteThank you for your support. Sometimes, they do not survive but their will always impresses all around.
Very touching Ghazla. What a Cancer patient manages to pull though is mean, s/he carries the burden of the disease and her familys suffering along.
ReplyDeleteMay some cure be found. May targeted drug theraphy be successful and also affordable..
Do stop by my blog! I'd love your comments & visits!!
Dear Kappu,
DeleteWith so much pollution and chemical discharge in air, cancer is gone common. It is sad and high time someone found a complete cure.

Somehow I managed to kick the cancer butt so hard that it ended up in bed for 17 years.. and I am enjoying my life. :)
ReplyDeleteHugs and very proud of you Farida :)
DeleteThat was a touching and soul stirring tribute. Painfully moving! I can only try to imagine how much pain, angst and agony a cancer patient would face. But their strength and spirit even at such adversity is remarkable.
ReplyDeleteYes, it is impossible to imagine what they go through. However, their strength and spirit is unbelievable. Thank you~
DeleteThe condition of Hiv patients are more worse than these ones. They are even thrown out from homes by their nearest people..they are on the roads just like dogs...We are seeing this dreadful truth now..ALL THE BEST.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean, thanks for sharing your views~
DeletePainful. Hopeful
ReplyDeleteYou can say that again. Thanks Mak~
DeleteI met a child suffering from cancer sometime back and I felt how cruel life can get ... lets hope and pray that medical science can find a cure for all types of cancer .
ReplyDeleteYour poem is very touching .
Lets hope and pray. This, one cure is over due. Thanks TTT~
DeleteI have seen people struggle to survive. And come to know of the ugly side of us. Relatives come and try to get the ATM card, pin numbers etc etc... No body cares of the person struggling to live. Money Matters Most.

DeleteSuch is life. So sad and true. Thanks for adding to my post~
Ghaz...This is raw, honest and true. Kudos for writing this piece!!
ReplyDeleteLife can be horrible, painful for cancer-patients. My Mom n my MIL both had cancer and they stayed with me till the last; so I know, how it is...sad:(

ReplyDeleteVery nicely written. This one touched us all, Ghazala.
So sad,i wonder why there is so much suffering in this world. And when the protaagonists show such courage in it's face it is no less than a marvel.
ReplyDeleteIts very tough to face the ordeal when its cancer.. And makes me scary to even think how does the person face it all..the ailment and suffering is too big.. when u know u r dying, u have to be very strong for ur ownself and for the people around..
ReplyDeleteTouching.... You write very nicely .
ReplyDeleteLovely poem..
ReplyDelete------
‘की—बोर्ड वाली औरतें!’
Wonderful dedication. It was expressive and beautiful.
ReplyDeleteA very touching post. Your poem reminded me of my cousin who passed away a few years back due to cancer. When I visited her a couple of days before she died, she looked exactly like what you've described in your poem. It was so sad to see her in that condition.
ReplyDeleteVery moving, Ghazala!
ReplyDeletevery effectively brought out....dard ko bhasha dena easy nahi hota but u did it.....
ReplyDeleteI read it very late when it was highlighted on Indiblogger. From my personal experience, it is not easy even to write about such moments.
ReplyDeleteCourage is needed all around.
